People do not build their perception of safety (and insecurity) solely in relation to crime, but also based on other aspects such as the surrounding context and their daily interactions. Insecurity is not only linked to the population’s exposure to criminal activity and/or their fear of becoming victims, but it is shaped by a set of factors, perceptions, and life experiences, as well as elements related to social structure and the contexts associated with everyday living spaces. In the 2024 edition of EVAMB, the municipality of Cornellà de Llobregat has been selected to implement a series of new questions aimed at measuring and analyzing the perception of safety. Cornellà is one of the most populous municipalities in the continuous Llobregat area and, for years, has implemented specific measures with the aim, among others, of improving its population’s perception of safety. Furthermore, it is one of the metropolitan cities with a sufficiently large sample in EVAMB to provide data at the municipal level. In this report, these new questions are added to the classic EVAMB questions (the level and evolution of safety in the neighborhood and the city, safety and insecurity in specific spaces and circumstances), as well as a newly introduced question for the entire survey sample in this edition: the sources through which people get information about safety.
