Resume:
The metropolitan region of Barcelona is in a phase of counter-urbanization. Urban-rural migration is a minority phenomenon, but growing, spurred by the Covid-19 pandemic. The housing crisis, especially in large cities, is favoring these residential changes, which are expected to continue with high intensity. Although they constitute an opportunity for the reactivation of rural areas, they also entail risks and paradoxes.
