The report analyses the socio-economic situation of the large population of the city of Barcelona and how housing conditions their living conditions. The structural changes that have made it easier for the population of 65 and more to be the least affected by poverty and social exclusion are described and it is noted that in recent years it has been especially protected in the context of pandemic crisis and inflationary process. In addition, it shows how the property habitual housing – a very large majority among the elderly population – acts as a protective element against poverty, since it drastically reduces the proportion of income to be allocated to housing expenses. The report also analyses the persistence of pockets of poverty among the elderly, especially among certain groups and the inadequacy of the residential stock of the elderly to the needs of old age.
