The metropolitan population at risk of poverty rose to 22.3% (approximately 740 thousand people), two percentage points more than before the pandemic, approximately 64 thousand more people. It is the highest value of the entire historical series. This is reflected in the Metropolitan Statistics on Living Conditions (EMCV) 2020-2021 which report on the income of the metropolitan population referring largely to the year 2020 and therefore allow, for the first time, to grasp the socio-economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
