The study analyses the evolution of social cohesion, social inequality and poverty in Barcelona once the economic crisis is over. The results show a reduction in social inequalities and poverty, returning to pre-crisis levels. In addition, the extension of the territorial focus to the metropolitan complex indicates how the improvement of social cohesion in Barcelona responds to a metropolitan logic explained by an apparent process of “suburbanization of poverty” that requires a more exhaustive study. Social profiles with a higher socio-economic vulnerability are also presented, highlighting the significant reduction in child poverty during the years 2011-2016 and the return of the oldest population as the most vulnerable group in socio-economic terms. Finally, the issue of housing and the rise in rental prices is addressed, which stands as one of the most important challenges in the city and that take the emancipated young population as the main affected.
